Access To Recovery

Recovery is living a life free of drugs or alcohol - a life that one finds satisfying. Satisfaction comes from having: a job (or pursuing a job or career); a safe, stable home (a place to call home); and connectedness (social relationships with family and friends).

Supporting people in recovery is the goal of the Access to Recovery Project.

The purpose of this $22.8 million three-year grant project is to provide recovery services to qualifying individuals and their family members and assist them in becoming productive members of their communities. This program is designed to help people reach recovery in body, mind, and heart.

Choice is a major component of this project. Access to Recovery is based on the knowledge that there are many pathways to recovery from addiction. The promise of this initiative - founded on a belief in individual choice - is that it ensures the availability of a full range of treatment options, including the transforming power of faith.

Once the client is assessed, and a recovery plan established, the client will be allowed to choose any authorized recovery provider for each service identified. At this point the dollar amount for these services will be reserved for this person/family member using a voucher system.

Some examples of recovery services are: mental health counseling, preventive services for client family members, transportation, housing assistance, child care, job readiness/vocational counseling, etc. In addition to the traditional providers of these services, faith-based organizations are encouraged to participate as providers.

This project is being implemented in six counties: Clark, King, Pierce, Snohomish, Spokane and Yakima. These counties will contract with local recovery service providers. We anticipate these services being available in these locations by February 2005.
