UTILIZATION REVIEW PROJECT
The System Transformation Initiative (STI) Utilization Review (UR) Project produced recommendations for statewide criteria and processes for external utilization review of State and community hospitalizations for the State of Washington. The goal of an external utilization review criteria and processes will be to ensure appropriate levels of state and community psychiatric inpatient and community-based services which support the recovery of individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.
As part of the process of developing criteria, the UR Project accomplishes the following:
• Develops standards for review of short-term hospitalizations; and
• Develops sampling methodologies and processes for independent review of 90 and 180 day commitments in community and state hospitals and freestanding Evaluation and Treatment Centers.
