Fingerprint Based Background Checks

BCCU sending mailed fingerprint cards


BCCU processing fingerprint results for cards submitted to the WSP between August 18, 2014 and November 24, 2014*


BCCU is conducting out of state research for fingerprint background checks with WIN Hits



BCCU processing interim fingerprint result letters for applicants to schedule Fingerprint Vendor appointments



*Fingerprint Background Checks that require research from Oregon and Montana can take up to three weeks for BCCU to receive a response.


** Days do not include those background checks where Oregon or Montana research is required.


Key Details:

  • Working days are Monday through Friday and exclude state holidays.
  • WSP takes up to 2 weeks to process resubmitted fingerprints due to poor print quality.
  • FBI's goal is to process resubmitted fingerprints within 24 hours after receiving. 
  • FBI takes up to 1 week to process national name and date of birth requests.
  • WSP and FBI do not return results to BCCU in the order submitted.

Do not resubmit an authorization form without first checking on the status of your submission. Multiple submissions of the same authorization from cause delays in processing.

If you have additional questions, please contact us at bccuinquiry@dshs.wa.gov or 360-902-7555. Please have the following information ready in order for us assist you:

  • Date the forms were submitted to BCCU;
  • BCCU account number from box 4 of the authorization form;
  • Applicant's name and date of birth; and
  • Identify what type of background check it was, i.e. priority processing, standard or fingerprint based.

Due to the volume of inquiries received daily and the length of time it takes to provide this information over the phone or via email, we request you limit the number of status check requests to no more than three forms per inquiry.
