Judge Veronica Alicea-Galvan

Judge Veronica Galvan was appointed to the City of Des Moines Municipal Court in 2007 after a rigorous selection process. Forty-two candidates applied for appointment to the position. Of the forty-two only six were chosen to interview for the position. None of the candidates considered for the position had less than five years of judicial experience. Of the six finalists interviewed, five, including Judge Galvan, are now judges in their own courts.

Throughout the last six years, Judge Galvan has led the court through the most difficult economic challenges in a generation. During her tenure, the court has managed to improve efficiency, increase services, and reduce costs. Judge Galvan's unique budgeting strategies led to her appointment to the Washington Judicial College where she teaches the course Municipal Court Budgeting to incoming judges.

Judge Galvan is proud of the skills and experience she brings to the bench. Her fluency in Spanish has allowed her to implement the only bilingual court in the State of Washington. As a result of her efforts she was asked to become an Adjunct Instructor at Seattle University School of Law where she has taught the course Spanish for Lawyers for the last three years.
