Braam Foster Parent and Relative Caregiver Telephone Survey, April 2007

Attention Foster Parents and Relative Caregivers!

If you are a Washington State foster parent or relative caregiver you will be receiving a letter from Washington State University (WSU) at the end of March about an important upcoming survey. The survey is being conducted as part of the Braam Settlement Implementation Plan, and the purpose is to gather information about caregivers' experiences to ensure that they are getting the training and support they need.

We hope you will be willing to take the time to participate in this survey and tell us what you think about training and support of foster parents in Washington State. Thanks in advance for your help!

What is included in the survey?
The survey asks questions about your experiences with training and support from DCFS, as well as about the children in your home. The survey was developed by Washington State University's Social and Economic Sciences Research Center (SESRC) with input from an advisory group and focus groups including foster parent representatives from each region.

How will the survey work?
Foster parents and relative caregivers will be contacted by telephone for the survey during April 2007. The interviewer will ask that the main caregiver in each household complete the survey. If the interviewer calls at an inconvenient time, you may request an appointment for a better time.

How will the survey data be used?
To ensure the survey results remain anonymous, the survey is being conducted by Washington State University's Social and Economic Sciences Research Center (SESRC), which will not collect any identifying information, and will only report summary results of the survey. The overall survey results will be used by the Braam Panel and by DCFS (Children's Administration) to identify ways of improving the training and support provided to foster parents. Survey results will also be posted on the Braam Panel website at www.wsipp.wa.gov/braampanel/ and on the Children's Administration website at http://www.dshs.wa.gov/ca/fosterparents/index.asp
