DASA Interpreter Services

The Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse (DASA) pays for interpreter services for patients participating in DASA-funded treatment services provided on-site at a DASA certified treatment facility.  DASA also pays for interpreter services for people who attend DASA-funded or sponsored events, such as major statewide conferences and public meetings.

Who are eligible for these services?

  • Patients who are partially or fully funded by DASA and are in a DASA-funded chemical dependency treatment program.
  • Parents of DASA public assistance patients when the parent is required by the treatment plan to be present.
  • People who attend DASA-funded or sponsored events, such as major statewide conferences and public meetings.

Who are not eligible for these services?

  • Patients whose treatment is not paid for by DASA.  These are usually private pay or private insurance patients.

What chemical dependency treatment services does this funding cover?

  • DASA-funded assessments, inpatient, and outpatient treatment services from a DASA contractor or county subcontractor.
  • In-house Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings while in residential treatment if the meetings are required by the patient's treatment plan.

What services does this funding not cover?

  • Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotic Anonymous (NA) meetings that are not required by the patient's treatment plan or are not in-house.
  • Translation of agency specific forms.
  • For residential treatment, interpreters are not covered during meals, sporting activities, or free-time.
  • Prevention services such as domestic violence classes, parenting classes, community outreach programs, etc.
  • Long-term training activities funded through the county.

How are interpreter services requested?

The treatment provider must complete and fax a DASA Interpreter Services Request/Approval form to the DASA Interpreter Services Coordinator and receive approval before services take place.

Link to instructions on completing the approval form.

Who is the Interpreter Services Coordinator?

The DASA Interpreter Services Coordinator is Cheryl Wilcox.  She can be reached by phone at (360) 725-3743 or e-mail wilcocd@dshs.wa.gov
