Treatment Expansion
State funding is available for Medicaid-eligible people who need treatment for alcohol and other drug use disorders. To get free, confidential information and referrals, call the Alcohol/Drug Helpline at (800) 562-1240 (in Washington State) or (206) 722-3700 (in Seattle or outside Washington State).
On July 1, 2005 a much needed state budget increase for chemical dependency treatment became a reality, supported by the Governor and the Legislature. This funding resulted from research showing significant cost savings for acute medical care, prescription drugs, acute psychiatric care, and long-term care when patients received treatment for drug use disorders, compared to patients who needed this treatment but did not receive it. The research also showed a large decrease in arrests for the treatment group compared to the non-treatment group. By working with our state and community partners, more people are now receiving the treatment they need, and leading healthy and productive lives.
