Division of Child SupportFrequently Asked Questions...

How many times have you heard DSHS-ESA acronyms and wondered what they really meant and whether you correctly identified all of the letters? By the way, DSHS is Department of Social and Health Services and ESA is Economic Services Administration. Or is the "A" for Act? Hmmmmm……………STRU? Is that the State Regulatory Training Unit?

STRU stands for the State/Tribal Relations Unit and we are located in the Lacey Government Center. Our role since 1997, is to assist ESA programs in meeting our commitment to the Centennial Accord while pursuing a government-to-government relationship that is positive and beneficial to all. Currently, we have established formal child support agreements with four tribes and have informal child support agreements with another 16 tribes. In the area of TANF, we currently have five tribal agreements with more under negotiation.

If you have any questions or concerns related to tribes, please contact our office.
