Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a needs-based program. This means
any other income you receive, such as
earned income from work, will cause
your SSI to decrease. This example demonstrates the effect of wages
(earned income) on Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Your SSI check
will decrease, but because less than ½ of your gross earnings are counted
by SSI, you will usually have more money working than when you were not
