SSI Student Earned Income Exclusion
For Wages with No Unearned Income
If you are under age 22 and regularly attending school, Social Security does
not count up to $1,640
per month of your wages when calculating your SSI payment amount. The maximum
yearly exclusion is $6,600
per year. The SSI and Medicaid resource limits still apply ($2,000 for a
single person and $3,000 for a couple). More information about SEIE can be found
at
SSI Spotlight on Student Earned Income Exclusion
and
Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
Scenario:
Note: Remember to keep track of the amount of monthly earned income excluded
each month by the Student Earned Income Exclusion to keep track of when you will
exceed the annual maximum. At that time, your SSI Benefit Check will reduce according to
the calculation using zero for the SEIE.
