D.  Multiple Providers

Revised:  September 17, 2007

clarifying information

A parent may request child care payment for two or more providers for overlapping periods of time. Reasons for this could include the need for a backup provider when a child is ill, evening and weekend care in addition to weekday care, or when the primary provider is on vacation. Whatever the reason, the case notes must include documentation of the need for the additional providers.

See WAC 170-290-0130 for more information regarding multiple providers.

worker responsibilities

  1. When combined authorizations exceed the maximum allowable for the month (more than 22 full or 30 part-time days or 230 hours), insert a "9" in front of the service code for the second provider. This 'flags' the authorization, showing there is a valid reason for the total number of days or hours to exceed the allowable maximum.

  2. A supervisor should "sign-off" on all authorizations that exceed the allowable maximum.

EXAMPLE

Jane has a 4 year old for whom you've authorized full-time care at a licensed family home. Jane is in the army reserves and needs additional care one week-end per month. Jane uses a non-relative for the week-end care. The correct authorization for this case is:

Authorization #1
02951 $20.09 22 Units $441.98

Authorization #2
92941 $2.10 20 hours $42.00
