Sign Language Interpreter Management This program administers the statewide contract to purchase sign language interpreter services. State of Washington agencies are obligated to provide sign language interpreters upon request to deaf or hard of hearing individuals who are seeking accessible government services. The program monitors contractual compliance including quality of services, certification of interpreters and adherence to best practices. Feedback on Court Interpreter Standards August 13, 2012 UPDATE: We need your help! Please click the link below to review the draft of our rules, Washington Administrative Code (WAC). Feedback is due by September 7th, so act quickly! Court Sign Language Interpreting Standards WAC ODHH has been working in collaboration with the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) and members of the deaf, interpreting, and judicial communities to develop standards for sign language interpreters in legal proceedings. These standards will assist us in complying with state law, and will provide Washington Courts with a list of qualified interpreters (RCW 2.42, http://apps.leg.wa.gov/Rcw/default.aspx?Cite=2.42). Now is the time when we need your help! The standards that we’ve proposed are posted below. Will you read through them and send me your feedback—good or bad? We are in the process of establishing these standards in Washington Administrative Code (WAC), the rules that support all of our laws. We want to make sure that our WAC has the best information possible in it! Standards for Sign Language Interpreters in Washington Courts You’ll see that this document has our proposed standards, some suggested training for interpreters, and a Comments section. The Comments are designed to help judges and other court staff with any questions they may have about sign language interpreters.
