Employment at the Special Commitment Center

The Special Commitment Center (SCC) within the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) offers many career opportunities. Working with residents civilly committed or pending commitment trial presents unique challenges – these challenges encourage and instill a sense of personal and professional growth and job satisfaction. SCC’s professional staffs represent education a level from high-school graduates, to those with GED’s and advanced college degrees. Degree emphasis includes criminal justice, psychology, counseling, and other social sciences.

Washington General Service Positions

The SCC offers full time and non-permanent employment for day, swing, and graveyard positions. Positions most frequently recruited for at all three facilities are the Residential Rehabilitation Counselor Pool and Residential Rehabilitation Counselor 3 classification. In the Total Confinement Facility on McNeil Island SCC employs On-call employees who are called upon to fill positions on short notice when needed.

If you are interested in working for the Special Commitment Center you must first apply for the specific job class under an open Washington State Job Opportunity Bulletin, published by the Washington State Department of Personnel. If you meet the minimum qualifications for the position you apply for, you will be tested. After attaining a passing score, your name will be placed on the register for that job class.

When completing your application, please note that SCC has facilities in both the Pierce County (278) and King County (1726) geographic regions. You may choose to apply for either or both locations.

To submit an application, please visit the Department of Personnel Career website at http://careers.wa.gov/ or call (360) 664-1960.
