OLYMPIA -- DSHS Secretary Susan Dreyfus has appointed Tracy Guerin as DSHS Chief of Staff effective July 7.

Guerin comes to DSHS from the Department of Information Services where she was a deputy director for the past four years. Overall, Guerin has 25 years of service working in Washington state, including management positions with the Department of Corrections and the Secretary of State.

Secretary Dreyfus said Guerin will be a valuable leader as the department navigates the rough waters of the economic recession.

"Tracy brings energy and fresh eyes to DSHS," said Secretary Dreyfus. "I am confident that Tracy will be able to work with our outstanding management team to find innovative ways to continue to serve those in need in the face of strained budgets."

The DSHS Chief of Staff position was previously called Deputy Secretary. Along with supervising responsibilities, Guerin will collaborate with all DSHS administrations to forge a stronger department-wide alignment of goals and priorities to help serve clients.

Guerin is a graduate of The Evergreen State College and is a resident of Olympia.
