Mental Health Services

Juvenile justice professionals, educators and community service providers throughout Washington State have continued to identify access to mental health services for youth involved in the juvenile justice system and their families as the number one need for local communities. To help address this issue, the GJJAC hosted a “Mental Health Summit” in May 2006 to further clarify the mental health service needs (specific to juvenile justice system involved youth) in local communities. (Full Summit Report (PDF)).

National experts were invited to provide both national and statewide contexts. Over 130 participants were divided into discussion groups to further define the need in their own communities.

The GJJAC continues to advocate for mental health services for juvenile justice involved youth and their families.
