The Arrestee Estimates of Substance Abuse Treatment Need (ARREST) Study,

Results from a survey of substance use, abuse, and need for treatment among arrestees booked in the: King County Jail, Whatcom County Jail, Yakima County Jail, and King County Youth Detention Facility

Key Findings: The Arrestee Estimates of Substance Abuse Treatment Need, or ARREST Study, obtained various measures of substance use, substance use disorders, and need for treatment among adult and juvenile booked arrestees. The study presents results of face-to-face interviews with 598 adult arrestees in the King, Yakima, and Whatcom county jails, plus 168 juvenile arrestees in the King County Youth Detention Facility. Findings are compared to findings of the 1993-94 Washington State Needs Assessment Household Survey, a telephone survey based on a sample of over 7,000 Washington households identifying the prevalence of many similar measures of substance use and abuse for the general state household population. The study was funded by the federal Center for Substance Abuse Treatment and conducted in 1995.
