The Traumatic Brain Injury Council sponsors some in-person support groups, while others are offered by community organizations.
Note: Support groups offer community and information, not clinical therapy.
Benefit of In-Person Support Groups
- Connection and Belonging – Face-to-face interaction builds a sense of belonging as group members foster relationships with others who understand the unique challenges of living with traumatic brain injury.
- Emotional Support – Find encouragement and reduce feelings of loneliness by being part of a community. Get feedback and encouragement in real time.
- Shared Learning – Exchange ideas, strategies, and practical tips for daily living, recovery, and navigating services.
- Validation and Understanding – Share experiences openly with people who “get it” and can offer empathy without judgment.
- Access to Resources – Learn about local programs, services, and tools that may not be widely known.
