2016 Foster Parent Survey: DSHS Foster Parents Speak
Between September 2015 and August 2016, DSHS surveyed 1,350 foster parents about their satisfaction with the support and training provided by Children’s Administration and private agencies.  They were also asked to offer recommendations for change. This report is the sixth annual Foster Parent Survey report completed by Research and Data Analysis (RDA).  Read the 2016 survey

Updated CA Education Policy
Children’s Administration updated policy  4302A. Educational Services and Planning: Early Childhood Development, K-12 and Post-Secondary  effectively  July 1, 2017.  The policy requires all children in out-of-home care to attend public school, unless they are court approved for home schooling, private school or participating in an ALE instruction conducted 100% on-line in the child’s placement setting. Notification of the DLR Emergency WACs that went into effect June 23, 2017
The emergency WAC went into effect on June 23, 2017. Please see the attachment SHS-4631.2 for the new WAC language. The changes are underlined. The other documents also included in the filing are attached. The CR-102 will be filed in the next 60 days. Once the CR-102 is filed a public hearing will be scheduled and you will be notified how to provide comment and the time and location of the hearing in case you want to attend in person. Read more

Graco is recalling more than 25,000 car seats that might not adequately restrain children during a crash.  The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced Wednesday that the webbing in the Graco My Ride 65 car seat failed to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. The agency found that children who are not appropriately restrained are at an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.  Find more information at the Graco website:

Children’s Administration is grateful to the Seattle Pacific Science Center for their partnership in helping meet the needs of children in out of home care.
The Seattle Pacific Science Center has just announced its new FREE Youth Access Membership to dependent children and youth who are in the care and custody of Children’s Administration and are:

  • in licensed foster care, or
  • placed by Children’s Administration with a relative caregiver

Coordinated Care offices are closed Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving weekend. If a child is placed in your home over the weekend or if a child already in your home needs medical care, you can still access health care services. The 24 hour nurse line is still available and can be reached at 1-844-354-9876 (TTD/TTY: 711). The nurse can answer questions about health care as well as assist with pharmacy approvals.
Another tool that can help when a child doesn't have their Apple Health Core Connections card, is the Interim Voucher.

Revised Foster Care WACs go into Effect on September 19th, 2016.
Changes were made to WAC chapters 388-145 Group Care Facilities, 388-147 Child Placing Agencies and Adoption Services, and 388-148 Foster Homes. Please review these changes (link for attachment). The updated WAC language will be available on September 19, 2016 at . The language will also be updated on the legislative website at approximately two weeks later. Thank you to all that provided feedback, public comment, and participated in this process.  Read the new language

Notification of Additional  Changes to the DLR WAC CR-102 Filing
The CR-102 (WSR 16-10-020) that was filed on April 25, 2016.  Public comment was received and incorporated into WAC 388-145-1305, 388-147-1305, and 388-148-1305. There was also an error found in WAC 388-148-1605 (3) that has been corrected. Please see the attached CR-102 WAC changes 6-10-16 document that has been updated with the NEW proposed language that will be filed with the CR-103. The changes are highlighted in yellow.  
There were no further changes to the remaining proposed WAC language in SHS-4582.5, other documents attached, or the public hearing. The public comment period for the following rule changes is now through July 5th, 2016 at 5:00pm. The information on how to provide public comment is below. Read more

Notification that the DLR WAC Rule-Making is in Process
The rulemaking procedure is in process for the  Division of Licensed Resources (DLR) WACs. There are several DLR WAC changes in the 388-148 Child Foster Homes, 388-145 Group Care, and 388-147 Child Placing Agencies and Adoption Services. DLR filed their CR-102 and the proposed WAC language is attached (SHS-4582.5).
The public comment period for the following rule changes is now through July 5th, 2016 at 5:00pm. Read more

Children’s Administration has created a new searchable employee directory.  The directory will allow you to search using a number of features, including first or last name, region, office, city and title.  The “Detail” link displayed with the results also provides the supervisor’s name and contact information.
