What happens to Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) when the only child is relinquished for adoption?

How does Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) remain open when the only child is relinquished for adoption?

To issue assistance for an active client in this situation:

  1. From Case Actions click Start Changes.
  2. On the mother's Client Details page in the Pregnancy section, put a check in the Child Relinquished for Adoption box.
  • Make sure the pregnancy due date is the same as the newborn's birth date.
  1. On the Eligibility Details page, click Confirm Benefits

The client receives cash benefit AF-9 (Child Relinquished for Adoption) through the end of the month in which they reach their six weeks of eligibility.

How does Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) remain open when the only child is relinquished for adoption?

To issue assistance for an active client in this situation:

  1. From AMEN, select Option [R] – Interim/Hist Change.
  2. On the DEM1 screen enter [Y] in the Child Relinq field.
  • Make sure the pregnancy due date is the same as the newborn's birth date.
  1. Call DONE, verify and commit the data.

The client receives cash benefit AF-9 - Child Relinquished for Adoption through the end of the month in which they reach their six weeks of eligibility.
