Improving Waiver Services

Learn what we're doing to make our waivers programs easier to understand and use.

What's happening?

We are working to make waiver services easier to understand and use. We asked people who use services, their families, Developmental Disabilities Administration staff, and community partners for ideas. We received more than 1,800 comments.

In keeping with our DSHS mission, vision and values, DDA shared the Waiver Restructure Report with the Legislature on Dec. 1, 2024. The report shares ideas from the community about how to make the waiver services system better.

What is federally approvable?

Because of federal requirements, our feasibility workgroups determined some of the service combinations that were suggested in the Waiver Restructure report cannot occur. Whenever possible services that can be simplified will be.

What about funding?

Many of the recommendations in the restructure report will require funding approved by the Legislature to move forward.

What is the timeline and DDA system change needs?

If funding is approved in the future for changes, it would take multiple years to implement.

Our teams are looking at other ways to improve services on our current waivers by September 2027. For information and updates about this project, subscribe to Gov Delivery.

Stay in Touch

We will continue to hear from people with lived experience during the waiver redesign project. Your ideas help us improve services. If you would like to get involved, please visit our Community Collaborators page for more information.
