Where you send your application depends upon which training you want to take.
There are two types of trainings: the Standard peer counselor training and the Youth and Family peer counselor training:
A. The Standard peer counselor training is offered:
- State-wide: Consumer Voices Are Born (CVAB) is an organization contracted by the state to provide state-wide training. Anyone from anywhere in Washington State may apply to take these trainings, if you are eligible. See the flyer with the dates and other details. If you wish to attend one of these trainings, send your application to training@cvab.org. This training is appropriate for all consumers, adults, youth, and parents/guardians. However, youth and parents who are on or will be on a Wraparound Intensive Services (WISe) team are required to take the Youth/Family trainings, see below.
- Locally: some areas of the state, called Regional Support Networks (RSNs), fund the standard training for people who live in the area. King and Spokane RSNs offer the standard training to people who live there. You must be a resident of that county to apply. Please follow the instructions for your area, found here.
B. The Youth and Family peer counselor trainings are provided by Washington State University. If you are a parent or youth working on a WISe team, you may only apply for a youth/family training. Other parents and youth may also apply but are not as high a priority. See the flyer for the address.
It is best to send your application form now for any (and all) trainings that interest you. Apply directly to the provider and for the dates you want for the best chance of enrollment.
