The FAR pathway is a new, non-investigative approach that allows the family to take the lead in assessing their strengths and needs. FAR workers will ask the family who they want to involve in the FAR process (such as drug and alcohol counselors, teachers, relatives, etc.), to provide information about child safety and contribute to the Family Assessment. FAR workers must work with the family to engage with the community (including family members, Tribes, churches, etc) to identify natural supports. It is still very important for FAR workers to gather information about the family to verify that children are safe; however, engaging the family in the process is a critical component of FAR.
