We’re thrilled to put our skills to use

When a request came in for rapid delivery of personal protective equipment for caregivers and patients in long-term care facilities and home-health care, the DSHS Leased Facilities Maintenance Operations team answered the call.

Using statewide resources (three warehouses, 20 staff, plus trucks), the team set up to deliver PPE to facilities near and far.

Every afternoon they fill orders from inventory in Tumwater and roll out to regional transfer points the next morning. By dividing their team into three and a using a well-coordinated route system, they can deliver PPE to long-term care facilities in less than 24 hours.

Delivery drivers practice social distancing. They leave PPE packages on the doorstep, take a photo, and wave. Many providers get emotional when they hear PPE is on the way. “I will be there and will keep my eye out. You are helping save the lives of clients that I dearly love,” said one caregiver.

To date, the team has delivered PPE orders to over 200 facilities across the state --  from Bellingham to Oak Harbor; Newport to Pasco; and Wenatchee to Walla Walla.

“We’re thrilled to put our skills to use,” reports Manager, Leland Elliot. “It’s an honor to use our logistical know-how, inventory experience, staff and equipment to support caregivers on the front lines.”
