FAR is a different, non-investigative way to engage families as partners in child safety. Other states have found that the FAR approach increases child safety. Talking with parents before we talk with children builds a more trusting relationship between the worker and the family from the beginning of the case. Research indicates that children in differential response cases are forth coming about what is happening in their family when their parents are present for the conversation. If a FAR worker believes a child cannot be kept safe, the case should be staffed to determine whether it should transfer to the Investigative pathway.
