The study sought to determine whether there were barriers to the receipt of aftercare services by clients discharged from state institutions for the mentally disabled in Idaho and Washington. This primary question was broken into a series of specific questions which guided the investigation. Answers to the specific questions were sought by examining 1) the institutional discharge planning process, 2) the process of linking clients into community services at discharge and 3) the process of delivery of community services to deinstitutionalized clients.
