Findings from the Social Services, Client Interview Survey

The Washington State Family Independence Program (FIP) was designed to increase the ability of families on welfare to find and keep jobs that enabled them to stay off welfare and become economically independent. In pursuit of this goal, FIP offered extended Medicaid coverage and child care subsidies for 12 months after a family left welfare. The intent was to ease the transition from welfare to work and increase the probability of finding a stable job with health benefits.
