The objective of this report is to present an exploratory analysis of the geographical distribution of cash income assistance. We will examine how income assistance varies among the state's legislative districts, and will construct and interpret a geographical picture of poverty around the state. Another objective is to provide legislators with information on income assistance participation in their districts. This report presents estimates for each legislative district of the numbers of persons receiving assistance and on the amounts paid to them. Finally, this study is an initial step in enveloping a capability to analyze the geographical distribution of other DSHS programs and other social and economic conditions, and to employ alternative geographical units of analysis.
