Working Paper

The Client Profile instrument, which was initially developed by the Bureau of Nursing Home Affairs in 1977, is used by 29 Nursing Care Consultants (NCCs), who assess Medicaid clients in nursing homes throughout the state. In 1982, a task force was established to revise the Client Profile to reflect current nursing practice and refine item format and definitions. To assess the effects of the revision, this project investigated the inter-rater reliability of the Client Profile. The study involved three phases: 1. Initial evaluation of the reliability of items in the revised Client Profile, with participation of one-half of the NCCs, 2. Item revision and training 3. A retest of item reliability, with participation of all NCCs. The question directly addressed was, "What levels of inter-rater reliability can be achieved with this instrument?"
