The long term effects of "institutionalization" of mentally ill and retarded persons in state inpatient facilities became a national concern in the 1950's. The study sought to determine whether there were barriers to the receipt of aftercare services by clients discharged from state institutions for the mentally disabled in Idaho and Washington.
