OLYMPIA -- The state Department of Social and Health Services was notified Wednesday, February 17, 2016 that its most recent corrective action plan for Western State Hospital has been approved by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ regional office and the state Department of Health.

“Western has submitted a successful plan for improvement and we anticipate there will be a survey very soon to review the improvements made at the hospital and ensure we are meeting CMS’ Conditions of Participation.” said Carla Reyes, assistant secretary of the DSHS Behavioral Health Administration.

The DOH executive director was complimentary about WSH’s efforts, stating “we thank you and your team for the extensive work that you’ve put into this product and we look forward to seeing it implemented.”

“This is a positive step forward. We are committed to this journey of continuous improvement that builds a long-term, sustainable culture of safety and better quality of care.” Reyes said.
