Home and Community Services (HCS) has created a series of voluntary trainings for AFH Owners and AFH Resident Managers who work with Medicaid eligible clients.

The new trainings:

  • Will expand on material covered in the required AFH Administrator Training
  • Are taught by a panel of HCS Subject Matter Experts
  • Provide information, resources, and support for AFH Providers with time for Q & A
  • Offer FREE CEUs per session with attendance and participation*

Please see the course descriptions below.  You may take the courses in any order, and they will be available again in 2023.  There will be two times available for registration each quarter, so select the session that is most convenient for you.

Session Topics Registration

Session 1 – HCS Overview – Programs & Eligibility - 1.5 CEUs

  • Overview of the Medicaid programs and supports available in a residential setting.
  • How does a client qualify for Medicaid services?
  • How to review a CARE assessment, and when to connect with your case manager.
  • Information on how, why, and when to request an Exceptions to Rule

Session 2 – HCS Overview - Financial Eligibility - 1.5 CEUs

  • Overview of Medicaid Financial Eligibility
  • Client Participation – what does it mean financially?
  • What to expect when a client converts from private pay to Medicaid payments

Session 3 – HCS Overview – Rates and Payments - ??? CEUs

  • Overview of Medicaid Rates and how they are established
  • How an Exception to Rule supplements the Medicaid Rate
  • Other opportunities for AFHs, such as Specialty Contracts.
  • Changes to funding from the MCO and the potential impact to the AFH Provider.

Continuing Education Units

To earn CEU credits, the following requirements must be met:

  1. You must be an AFH Owner or Resident Manager
  2. Attendance for the full duration of the course
  3. Participation in course activities
  4. Completion of Course Survey
