The Triage Consultation and Expedited Admission process allows a defendant in custody to be admitted to the hospital more quickly if they require additional psychiatric intervention.
Jails, prosecutors, or assigned defense attorneys may request a triage consultation for any inmate on a court order awaiting forensic services from the state hospital if they believe the defendant requires additional psychiatric intervention because they are at serious risk of substantial harm to self or others as a direct result of their psychiatric symptoms.
DSHS clinical staff then review the request and supporting documentation to decide whether expedited admission should be granted, based on established criteria.
To request triage consultation and expedited admission, fill out TCEA request form and submit to triageconsult@dshs.wa.gov.
