Training

Human subject protections training is required for:

  • Investigators and Co-Investigators
  • All research staff who have contact with human subjects or identifiable records
  • WSIRB Members
  • WSIRB Staff

Initial or continuing study approval cannot be granted until the training coordinator receives confirmation that the required training has been successfully completed by the investigator and co-investigator. Other research staff may not have contact with human subjects or identifiable records until training has been successfully completed.

Approved Training Courses

WSIRB staff recommend the web-based human subject protections training provided by the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI). Please register under Washington State Government Agencies.  Keep a PDF copy of your CITI completion report.   Researchers may also complete a human subject protections training course through OHRP or their home institution and submit their completion certificate. HIPAA, Good Clinical Practice, and Responsible Conduct of Research courses are not accepted in lieu of human subject protections training.

Continuing Education

While continuing education is not required, we recommend refreshing your training periodically.

DSHS Staff only - Financial Conflicts of Interest Training

Web-based financial conflicts of interest training is available through the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI). Please register under Washington State Government Agencies. When the training coordinator has been notified of successful training completion, your name will be posted in our listing of DSHS Training Participants.

Please contact Review staff if you have any questions.
