There are scarce resource dollars available for training and ancillary support benefits for welfare clients. Research has yet to be mounted to answer the question of whether training for client's leads to enhanced employment ability or economic self sufficiency. The FIP Interim Review Project (FIRP) has the ability to use its data set to test the efficacy of client classification. That is, whether there is a model in the literature, or one that could be developed from available data, that could classify those FIP site clients based upon measures of "employability," and predicts the potential of economic self-sufficiency for clients. This research question leads to the questions of feasibility of identifying and targeting certain subgroups of FIP clients for training benefits, and the potential for identifying certain subgroups that are ready to enter the job market without additional training and with limited casework services.
