OLYMPIA – The Department of Social and Health Services today announced that Mark Kettner has been officially named Chief Executive Officer for Eastern state Hospital (ESH). Kettner has been in the position as interim since April 2018.

“Mark has been doing a remarkable job as interim and he came out on top of a very qualified pool of applicants,” said DSHS Behavioral Health Administration Assistant Secretary, Sean Murphy. “The patients and staff at Eastern are very lucky to have Mark at the helm and DSHS is very lucky that he is with us.”

Mr. Kettner brings nearly 30 years of experience working in a variety of health care settings and previously served as the Chief Administrative/Chief Financial Officer at ESH since 2014.

Under his leadership, Eastern has maintained its full accreditation by The Joint Commission (TJC) and continues to meet the Medicare hospital conditions of participation standards set by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

“I look forward to continuing to collaborate with our many state agency and community partners related to the future treatment of mental health in our state,” said Mark Kettner. “My focus will be to continue advocating on behalf of the patients in our care who are working to recover from mental illness and support the staff who have been entrusted with their care.”

Kettner holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Eastern Washington University and a Master of Business Administration from Webster University. He has served on various healthcare and social service related community boards and committees over the past several years including the Board of Directors for the Family Impact Network and the Board of Trustees for Hospice of Spokane.
