All DSHS interpreters and translators must create a profile in the LTC Gateway tracking system

    • The user manual will be revised based on user feedback and tech updates. Please check this page regularly for the latest version.
    • Please read and follow the instructions in the User Manual before contacting LTC with questions. 
    • Those with expired credentials and/or those looking to schedule a test will be invited to create a candidate profile in LTC Gateway once testing resumes.
  • No tests are being scheduled at this time. When tests resume, click the following link to reach the online scheduling portal: SCHEDULE A TEST. Check back regularly for news on future openings.
  • Prior to scheduling a test, please read the Test Information and Test Registration Information pages. 
  • All DSHS credentials expire after 4 years, unless the renewal requirements are met.
  • If your certification or authorization has expired, you must re-test.
  • RCW 74.04.025 limits testing of languages for which fill rates in the prior year are 90% or higher. There are no testing limitations due to fill rates at this time.

What We Do

The Language Testing and Certification program (LTC) provides bilingual certification for DSHS employees and authorization and certification testing for persons interested in providing interpreter or translator services for DSHS clients with limited English proficiency.

The Language Testing and Certification program provides the following services:

  • Sets and maintains qualification standards for DSHS bilingual positions, interpreters, and translators across languages.
  • Administers language proficiency testing to certify/authorize DSHS bilingual employees, applicants for bilingual positions, contracted interpreters, and contracted translators.
  • Manages the roster of certified and authorized interpreters and translators.
