OLYMPIA -- The Department of Social and Health Services is proposing construction of a behavioral health facility in Lewis County and needs public input.

The agency hopes the public will take part in a virtual meeting to be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2020 to give comment on the proposed facility located at the old Maple Lane School site, owned by the Department of Corrections. The location address is 20311 Old Highway 9 SE, Centralia, WA 98531.

The facility would provide secure, civil behavioral health services, which is part of the major reform happening in our state with regard to the treatment of people diagnosed with a mental illness. The large state psychiatric facilities will move to focusing primarily on forensic mental health services and smaller facilities for civil, in-patient and out-patient mental health treatment would be built in the communities where people are already familiar and supported.

More information on the proposed site and how to log on to the meeting can be found on the DSHS website. There is also an opportunity provide feedback and sign up for email notifications from here as well.
