MEDICAL LAKE – The Department of Social and Health Services is pleased to announce that Jayme Skehan, RN, MSN, DNP has accepted the position of Chief Nursing Officer at the agency’s Eastern State Hospital.

Skehan may be new to this position, but she is not new to Eastern. She came to the hospital in 2017 through a consulting firm as the Interim Quality Director. That year, she assisted the facility in maintaining its accreditation by the Joint Commission. She then transitioned to the position as Interim Chief Nursing Officer.

Originally from the Bronx, New York, Skehan felt called to nursing and dedicated her education to it by earning a bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees in the field. She worked at the nation’s top acute care teaching hospitals, Mount Sinai and New York Presbyterian, both in New York.

“We are extremely lucky to have Jayme at Eastern,” said Sean Murphy, DSHS Behavioral Health Administration Assistant Secretary. “Her commitment to excellence is second to none and we are lucky to have her choose to work for us when, quite honestly, she could work anywhere in the nation.”

“Jayme’s demonstrated commitment toward providing safe, high quality care for the patients we serve and determination for excellence for and with staff is exceptional,” said hospital Chief Executive Officer Mark Kettner.  “Her years of health care clinical and leadership experience will continue Eastern on its forward path toward excellence.”

Skehan begins her official new duties on Aug. 1, 2020.
