OLYMPIA -- The Department of Social and Health Services is proposing construction of a 48-bed, behavioral health facility in Clark County and wants public input by August 28, 2020.

The proposed project site is within the Columbia River Mental Health Services campus located at 6926 NE Fourth Plain Blvd in Vancouver, Washington.

The facility would provide secure, civil behavioral health services, which is part of the major reform happening in our state with regard to the treatment of people diagnosed with a mental illness. The large state psychiatric facilities will move to focusing primarily on forensic mental health services and smaller facilities for civil, in-patient and out-patient mental health treatment would be built in the communities where people are already familiar and supported.

More information on the 48-bed proposed site can be found on the DSHS website as well as an opportunity to provide feedback and sign up for email notifications.

DSHS will hold a community meeting in the second half of July, where the agency will share information about the project. For more information, please visit the website or contact Larry Covey at larry.covey@dshs.wa.gov.
