In the Aid to Families with Dependent Children and Food Stamp Programs

The federal government requires that states conduct Quality Control (QC) reviews of payments made to a random sample of Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) and food stamp program recipients. If payment error rates for these programs are above specified levels, the federal government imposes fiscal sanctions. Sanction amounts are based on these error rates.
