A priority of the federal Affordable Care Act is to align and coordinate benefits between Medicare and Medicaid. To move this goal forward, the Medicare-Medicaid Coordination Office (MCO) was established http://www.cms.gov/Medicare-Medicaid-Coordination/Medicare-MedicaidCoordination.html within the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. CMS is managed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
This new office is responsible to partner with states to develop new and improved models of care for dual eligible beneficiaries. Fifteen states across the country have been selected and awarded funding and technical assistance to design new approaches to integrate services. Washington State is a recipient of this grant.
The Affordable Care Act puts in place strong consumer protections, provides new coverage options and gives a variety of  tools to assist in making informed choices about health care. For more information: http://www.healthcare.gov/law/index.html
